Kailash Mansarovar Tour with Lhasa and Everest Base Camp is one of the best trails to experience the sacred Mt. Kailash and the highest peak of Mt. Everest. The tour offers us glimpses of the Mt. Everest, Mt. Kailash, Mt. Ape, Mt. Kamet and Mt. Guru-Mandala. We will also be able to explore the Peikutso, Mansarovar and the Rakhsash Lakes. In the capital city of Tibet, there are also the Potala Palace, Jokhang, Drepung and the Sera Monasteries. Also, get close to the traditions and cultures of the Tibetan people.

The Lhasa-Kailash Tour starts with a sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley. Explore the Swoyambhunath, Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, Jal Narayan, Guheshwori temples and also the durbar squares of the Kathmandu Valley. Fly to the Gonggar Airport of Lhasa and enjoy another sightseeing tour there. Then, drive all the way to Ronbu and get to the northern Everest base camp via the Ronbu Monastery. Drive all the way through Saga and Mansarovar Lake to arrive at the village of Darchen, the major start point of the Kailash Kora. Trekking to Juthulpuk is the hardest as we will have to climb up and descent from the high pass of Drolma La. After the 3 days long Kailash Kora, we will drive through the previous trails to get back to Lhasa. Fly back to Kathmandu and end the trip on the 18th day. You can also customize your trip according to your needs. The best time of the tour is between the months of May and September.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu (TIA) (1350m). Overnight at hotelOne of our representatives will pick you up at the international airport and guide you to your hotel room. You can rest or visit the Garden of Dreams at Thamel. In the evening, enjoy typical Nepali food at a restaurant. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02Sightseeing in Kathmandu. Overnight at hotelToday, we will visit the Pashupatinath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also listed in the UNESCO world heritage sites, this temple reserves its seat as one of the holiest places for the Hindu devotees. Visit the Guheswari Temple, also dedicated to Lord Shiva/Adi Shakti, built by King Pratap Malla and get insights on the whole story of Sati Devi and the Shakti Peeth. If the time persists, we will get to the Jal Narayan Temple, also known as the Budhanilkantha. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple has a statue of resting Lord Vishnu floating on the water. Enjoy hearing the stories of how the statue came to be. Back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 03Sightseeing in Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel Get on the jeep and travel to the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, one of the three royal palaces of the Kathmandu Valley. Enjoy the major attractions of the Square which includes the 55 Window Palace, Vatsala Temple, Nyatapole Temple, Golden Gate, Lion’s Gate, Mini Pashupatinath Temple and the famous statue of King Bhupatindra Malla. Fill our bellies with yummy delicacies and travel to the Patan Durbar Square, another royal palace of the Kathmandu Valley constructed during the Rana regime. Our trip to the Durbar Squares will let us explore the typical Newari culture and tradition during the time of the Ranas. Back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 04Sightseeing in Kathmandu and trip preparation. Overnight at hotelWe will drive to the 3rd Durbar Square inside the Kathmandu Valley today. Also listed as one of the world heritage sites of the valley, this place has much more to offer than both of the Durbar Squares. We will then visit the Swoyambhunath Temple, holy to both the Buddhist and the Hindu devotees. Get a gist of what the valley really looks like from the top. Finally, a visit to the Bouddhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world, will end the day for us.

Day 05Fly to Lhasa (1.30 hrs). Overnight at hotelAfter breakfast, we will drive to the international airstrip of Nepal and fly to the Lhasa Gonggar Airport. We will have a local guide ready to escort us during our trip. Check-in at the hotel and either rest for the day or explore the surroundings. Overnight at hotel.

Day 06Sightseeing in Lhasa. Overnight at hotelVisit the Potala Palace, one of the UNESCO listed world heritage sites of the country. The palace was once a residence of the Dalai Lama and holds a great importance in the history of Tibet. We will then, visit the Norbulingka Palace, built by the 7th Dalai Lama to be used as an administrative and religious center. Finally, get to Drepung Monastery, the largest in the country, to end our day.

Day 07Sightseeing in Lhasa. Overnight at hotelStart our day with a trip to the sacred temple of Jokhang. The temple represents Nepalese, Tibetan and Indian architectural designs. After Jokhang, we will visit the Sera Monastery, one of the three Glug monasteries of Tibet. We will roam around the Barkhor Street for the time being. Overnight at hotel.

Day 08Lhasa to Shigatse (5-6 hrs). Overnight at tea houseWe will get on a 4 wheeler and start our drive to the land of Shigatse. Along the scenic tracks of Gyantse, view the amazing Yamdrok Lake and the peaks of Simi La, Karo La and the Kampa La. Then, we will drive to the village of Gyantse to arrive at Shigatse. Visit the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery to end the day.

Day 09Shigatse to EBC and back to Rongbu. Overnight at tea houseDrive through the second biggest city of Tibet and pass the villages of Old Tingri to arrive at Rongbu. Leave all our backpacks at the hotel in Rongbu and trek through the bareen Ronbu Glacier to arrive at the Rongbu Monstery. It is the highest monastery of the world. Then, an easy hike above will take us to the foot of the Mighty Everest Base Camp. Enjoy the panoramic views of the northern side of the highest snow-capped peak of Mt. Everest. Get back to the village of Rongbu for onvernight stay.

Day 10Rongbu to Saga. Overnight at tea houseGet a good view of the sunrise above the Everest Peak and then head to the village of Saga after breakfast. Along the way to Saga, we will be able to get a view of the world’s 14th highest peak Mt. Shishapangma sitting at a height of 8012 meters. We will also be able to see the blue Peikutso Lake on the way to Saga. Overnight at Saga.

Day 11Saga to Lake Mansarovar to Darchen. Overnight at tea houseToday, we will drive to the holy lake of Mansarovar, the highest fresh water lake in the world. Located at a height of 4558 meters with greenish-blue color, this lake is believed to be a resting place for lord Vishnu. Also experience the Rakshash Lake and Kailash and Guru-Mandala peaks on its surroundings. Overnight at tea house.

Day 12Kailash Kora. Darchen to Yamdwar. Trek to Derapuk (5-6 hrs). Overnight at tea houseDrive all the way to Lhara, now known as Darchen, after exploring the Mansarovar Lake. Get through the village of Tarboche which is generally seen as the starting point of the Kailash Kora. Yamdwar, the gateway of the god of death, is situated in this village. We will trek a couple of hours to arrive at the village of Derapuk, facing the north side of Mt. Kailash. Ape, Kamet and the Guru-Mandala peaks have great landscape views from this part of Tibet. Overnight at tea house.

Day 13Kailash Kora. Trek to Juthulpuk via Drolma La Pass (8-9 hrs). Overnight at tea houseThe longest and hardest day on the entire trek. Hike up all the way to the top of the Drolma La Pass and then drop down to get to the village of Juthulpuk. Descent steeply and then follow the river to get through the Khando Sangam La to get to our destination. The name of the village is said to be, because of the miracle cave, Juthulpuk. Overnight at tea house.

Day 14Kailash Kora. Drive back to Saga. Overnight at tea houseExplore the caves and the temples around the Milarepa cave and then hike a couple of hours to complete the Kora and get back to the village of Darchen. From there, we will drive back to the village of Saga. Overnight at tea house.

Day 15Saga to Shigatse. Overnight at tea houseIts all drive back to the second largest city of Tibet. Get through the village of Rongbu with a picturesque view of the north side of Mt. Everest, to arrive at the village of Shigatse. Overnight at tea house.

Day 16Shigatse to Lhasa (5-6 hrs). Overnight at hotel Follow the same route through the village of Gyantse to arrive at the capital of Tibet. Overnight at hotel.

Day 17Fly back to Kathmandu (1.30 hrs). Overnight at hotelAfter breakfast, we will get on the airplane and fly back to the capital city of Nepal. Overnight at hotel.

Day 18DepartureOne of our representatives will guide you to the Tribhuvan International Airport and bid you adieu.

Trip Note

  • Do not bring any books, magazine, pictures about Tibet, Buddhism or about any Lama’s. Custom of China won’t allow entering with those kinds materials.
  • Fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, liquids like Ghee, Oils are not allow entering from Chinese custom at Keyrung
  • Do not take any pictures and videos in Chinese customs, Army and police station
  • Make queue in every customs and in checking post as per your visa list number (your guide will give you instruction from first day)
  • Take cooperative position from every Nepali and Tibetan staffs and in Immigration sites
  • We need three working days for Visa processing in Kathmandu for all foreigners other than Indians. So all the foreigners must stay 3 days in Kathmandu
